Dear
Parents,
Starting
on Tuesday, December 8th, I will be hosting coffee with the
principal form 9:00 to
9:30
a.m. Parents are invited to sit
and have coffee and discuss any questions or concerns you may have. I will be hosting these coffees every
Tuesday throughout the school year and as long as there is interest. I hope that you will be able to stop in
some time. Of course, I am always
available to meet with parents by appointment.
Friday,
December 11th, will be Old Hammondtown School's second annual
charity basketball game. The game
will pit the OHS staff against students from the sixth grade. Admission to the game is a non-perishable
food item or a cash donation to St. Vincent de Paul. The game starts at 6:30 and the student rock band "Rain"
will perform at halftime. Please
mark your calendar as it promises to be a great evening.
Our
Study Island competition ended with a bang. Students at Old Hammondtown School earned a combined total
of 2516 blue ribbons. Individual
classes and students were recognized for outstanding achievement. Students can continue to use Study
Island at home. A link is provided
on the school's website.
Our
sixth grade participated in the Lions Club annual poster contest. Students were challenged to create a
poster that best depicted the contest's theme - The Power of Peace. All the students in the sixth grade
participated. Colleen Beatrice
took home third place and a $25 gift certificate to "No Kidding." Lily McIntire won second place and
received a $25 gift certificate as well.
Charlotte VanVoorhis won first place and a $50 gift certificate. Charlotte's poster will next move on to
a statewide competition.
Old
Hammondtown School's Student Council has been busy organizing a year-long can
drive. School Council representatives have been organizing the collection of
cans in their classrooms that are donated to St. Vincent de Paul Charities
every Friday. The Student Council
has also been collecting the links for each class's Chain of Kindness and has
used them to recognize their classmates.
As
part of our commitment to kindness and compassion through Rachel's Challenge,
our students are looking out for random acts of kindness. Everyday, students are recording kind
acts on strips of paper that are used to construct a Chain of Kindness. Each class is constructing its own
chain that will eventually be connected to the other class chains. This chain reaction of kindness is
having a very positive impact on our school environment.
I
hope your holiday season is full of joy and relaxation.
Sincerely,
Matthew
D'Andrea
